True H1N1 testing is done at certified laboratories and can take anywhere from a day or more. Usually this is done by the state department of health or a few commercial laboratories. In office testing done by commercial kits often only tests for influenza A or B. We assume that the circulating strain now is A and H1N1 but it is an assumption. Some "sentinel" offices have kits provided by the state to specifically test for H1N1 but are limited. I hope this answers your question.
