Hi Tricilewis1,

The formula to solve this problem is:
(known line order – spaces between) – 1 =
(12 – 7) – 1 = 4

Mary is in the 4th position

You can double check your answer by writing out the number line.  There are exactly seven spaces between the number 4 and number 12.

Hope this helps!
