What the Expert Says:

Hello Redlady,

There are several ways to do this.

1.  You could talk to your child's teacher.  Ask her what materials she recommends you use with your child.  She may have some extra materials that are similar to the ones she's using in the classroom.

2.  You could go to the school office and ask to look at specific catalogues that contain teacher materials.  Your child's teacher could recommend some specific publishers.

3.  You could look at the bottom of the worksheet pages for the publisher name, and then you could look at their catalogue on the Internet.

4.  You could go to a teacher's store in your city and look through the worksheet books they have.  You'll likely find some that are similar to the ones your child uses in the classroom.  You could ask your child's teacher for the names of teacher's stores that are nearby.

5.  Sometimes grocery stores and drug stores have a children's section and you'll find workbooks there.

If you want to use these over the summer, perhaps you could talk to your child's teacher, and she could recommend the best ones and how many pages to work on each day.

Sincerely,

You may have to be more specific in you question. It depends on the company. You generally look this up first and see how to gain these materials.

Hi,

As a teacher I would recommend not getting these. It can be frustrating when students have the same materials at home to work on- as we use in class. It's difficult to assess if the student is grasping the concept- or has it memorized!  Unless you're looking for review- please don't do this!

If you want review then I agree with ask your student's teacher.  There are a lot of books and websites out there that are helpful.  Personally, I'm happy to send home review over summer vacation.

Barnes and Noble and Borders offer Summer Bridge books and other books that are kid friendly, colorful and com with stickers and charts to track progress- many of my families use these successfully.

If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you review the various free worksheets that Education.com offers:

http://www.education.com/worksheets/

You can peruse by grade level or topic, or do a keyword search to find a worksheet of interest.

For the worksheets that Education.com didn't create originally, there is a link to purchase the workbook. This is a great way to try the worksheets before committing to purchasing the whole book.

Here's an example:

I hope these resources are helpful to you.
