Hi, my son is 2yrs and 6 months now. He is very shy in front of new people. He is very quiet doesnt gel with other kids in the family as well. I have decided to put him in a preschool. Will that help him overcome his shyness..? please help

I think you have taken the right decision. Preschool is the best solution to overcome this problem. And for that matter I think choosing the right preschool is also very important. With my personal experience i would suggest you look for Eurokids International.
