Q:
Can a principal make a student answer questions about an accusation they made against a chaperone with the chaperone in the room during the questioning?
one of my students accused a chaperon of slapping him in the face on a field trip. No one witnessed this and this student causes problems often. He even said he would cause problems for what ever adult he was with on the field trip. The chaperon says he didn't touch the student in any way and is even willing to meet with the principal, teachers, the parents of the child, etc. The principal spoke with the student about this and even had the student talk with the chaperon before talking with the student's parents. Is it appropriate for the principal to question this student before notifying parents? Is it appropriate for the principal to have the student and chaperon in her office to question them together?
