What the Expert Says:

Actually quarantine is only for those who are not ill but exposed to an infectious agent (e.g., 2009 pandemic influenza A virus aka swine flu) to prevent transmisson of said virus.  In the case of swine flu they (public health authorities) do not use quarantine precautions.  For persons ill with swine flu they are asked to stay at home while ill (a form of what is known as isolation precautions) and may be placed "in isolation" in a hospital or assisted living situation to prevent viral transmission.
