naquesi asks:

At what reading level are LA high school textbooks written?

I am a teacher in Leesville taking a Secondary Reading Methods class from U.of Phoenix.  I found Grade Level Expectations on the LA DOE website, but nothing that tells me what reading level textbooks are written in.  I'm sure someone in the department knows this.

What the Expert Says:

The best way to find the reading level of any textbook is to research the reading level with the publisher. Most textbooks are not written on grade level. Newspapers, for instance, are an eighth grade reading level.

For Louisiana, check with the adaopted textbooks list and then go to the publishers' websites for detailed information.
