As a parent you have a right to request.  However, if you are feeling the need to request this, rather than assume it will happen, there may be some issues that you believe may interfere with the promotion.

I suggest you first request a meeting with your son's teacher to discuss what might be best for your child. You may need to know more about what is going on.  Or you may feel you know enough.  Either way, the best plan is to think about what might be in the best interest of your son, and get all the information you might need to make that decision.
