What the Expert Says:

Oh, dear! Are they making K students do science fairs? Bad pedagogy! You should protest! Such projects should be for older children. If you have to come up with one, why not have your child do a leaf collection and identify the leaves, or examine flowers and identify the parts, or collect and identify some insects. Your school's curriculum needs to be examined!

Try Experimenting with Colors. The students can finger-paints in the primary colors, clay, or food coloring solutions and ask them to predict what will happen when they mix two of the colors. What do they expect will happen when they mix unequal amount of colors or what if they mix all three colors?

Or create a Magical substance. Use 1 1/2 cups of corn flour, 1 cup of water and food coloring mix in a bowl. When you pick up the substance it is hard and it's possible to form balls from it. But when you open your hands, the substance becomes liquid and spills out. Kids really love to play with this substance.
