Setting reasonable expectations is a challenge to professional teachers. With assessment benchmarks in place for state-mandated testing, this makes individualizing educational goals even more difficult. Consultation with other teachers and educators about individual students is helpful in determining your own classroom standards.

I tend to think if our expectations are high, students will strive to do their best. Your relationship with your students is what they remember the most- you as a role model who encouraged the best from each student.
