What the Expert Says:

Have you talked to your son to find out why he refuses to go to school?  Has anything happen there that makes him afraid?  Has he been bullied?
Overall, how would you describe his latest moods? Has been sleeping more than normal?  Eating more than normal or barely eating?  Has he been overly emotional?  Does he have friends?  If not, why?  Do you think that he might be depressed?

First, talk to your son as he should be able to explain to you why he refuses school attendance.  If he does not provide you with any insight, you might want to evaluate him for depression.  If that's the problem, he can be helped with therapy and medication. Also, if school is out of the question for whatever reason, consider home schooling.

Best regards.
