Q:

What can I do to get my son an education at school?

Hi my name is Margaret Mensi. I was wondering if you could help me with schooling my son. He's 14, autistic, and in the 8th grade. His name is Micheal and he's having alot of problems in school. The school he attends thinks home schooling him would be better for him. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

What the Expert Says:

Hello Margaret and thank you for writing.

Please consider talking with experts/ parents in your locale that work and help children with autism. To help you find resources I have added links here on this answer.  Also, note that there are laws and due process regarding the  free and appropriate education of children who have been identified as having special needs with public education settings.

To read about the laws for special education go to WRIGHTS LAW here

With my girls on the spectrum, I loved home schooling when I had the ability. (Unfortunately after my divorce, it became impossible.)
Does your school have a program designed for kids on the spectrum? Would they be willing to place him with a paraprofessional to allow him the one on one service that they feel he needs?
