Do my son have a learning disability?

My son will be 5 in August and he doesn not know his abc's. He can count to 10 with help but he does not recongize letters or numbers. He have also been in speech therapy for 2 yrs and he is about to start Kindergarden./ Could he have a learning disability?

We would definitely agree with lnirschel about the challenge determining if your son has a learning disability in this forum. It would be impossible (and unethical) for somone to diagnose your son as having a learning disability in this type of forum.

We recommend speaking with your son's speech therapist who may refer you to other professional resources for testing. You may \also be referred to a learning specialist, an educational specialist, or some other professional (e.g., a psychologist).

Do not ask this serious of a question in an online forum. Go to your pcp and ask him/her to help you. Talk to your son's speech therapist and the school he will be attending. They should help you find out of he has a learning disability or direct you to the professionals that can help you. I have seen too many young people who's parents were in denial of their learning disability and did not receive the help they needed. I commend you for recognizing that your son may have a learning disability, but go through the proper channels to received help.
