Q:

My son received the nasal flu vaccine today. He's now "barking" up a storm and appears to need his "puffer". Is it safe to use so soon after?

He typically only needs his puffer (xopenex) after developing asthmatic bronchitis at the end of a cold.

What the Expert Says:

Yes, Xopenex is a "rescue" medication and can be used.  Check with your physician if he is coughing post vaccine. Children with asthma should not be using FluMist or nasal flu vaccine because of the potential to wheeze/cough and ask your doctor to note this year's response.
