My son doesn't do his work in class, has ADHD and high functioning autism. He has an aide to assist him, but is not focused or motivated. Any ideas?

Dear Blessed mom of two:

give what you describe, my suggestion is to call his pediatrician or developmental specialist to re-access his academic needs. A child study update may help too. If the team of teachers, aide, and medical home can't figure out how to help, ask the school to provide more frequent breaks from work if that is possible. Sometimes a short break will assist in refocusing the child to task. If the medication for ADHD is not well balanced, a tune up there may also be helpful. Keep working and best wishes.
