I'm not sure what you tried. Perhaps you shuffled your shoes across the rug to create static and touched an object? In the winter when the humidity is very low, and depending upon the material of your shoe's soles, typically produces a spark. It could have failed if the air was too humid or if you had the wrong materials interacting.
