What the Expert Says:

The influenza starts suddenly and with intense symptoms.  Most of the time, it improves with only supportive care.  However, any viral illness may get complicated by a bacterial illness.  Therefore, if a child who had been diagnosed with the flu gets better and then deteriorates should be evaluated by a health care provider as soon as possible.
