Q:

What test scores would indicate a high performing school?

"Are the test scores with the highest being 62% still pretty low? What would be considered a high preforming school?"

Hi Tammy,

Since states have different standardized tests, and the tests vary in terms of difficulty, simply looking at the percentage of students passing a test doesn't always paint the full picture.

Instead, I suggest comparing your school's test results to the district and state level results.  Another way to get a good benchmark is to compare your school's results to other schools in your area.

Our SchoolFinder application will provide you with this level of detail, first find your school and then go to the "Test Scores" link on the left of your school profile.

Another way to get a good idea of how your school is performing relative to other schools in your state is the Education.com TestRating found on school profile pages.

This is a number ranking (1-10) calculated by Education.com that provides an overview of a schoolâs test performance for a given year, by comparing the schoolâs state standardized test results to those of other schools in the same state.

Best,
Kelly
