Handwriting Without Tears has a great program for drawing a person called "Mat Man".  You learn to make a person from straight and curved wooden sticks first.  Then you pick up a pencil.  Check out their website!  Be sure and give verbal directions as you draw to help your child picture what he is to draw.  Standing in front of a mirror often helps as well.
