A diferencia de otras infecciones, cuando se contrae la gripe sin complicaciones, por lo general, no se requiere tratamiento médico. El médico puede recetarle un medicamento antiviral (si los síntomas se informan dentro de las 48 horas del comienzo), pero estos medicamentos generalmente sólo acortan la duracion de la infección por 1 ó 2 días y, la mayoría del tiempo, se utilizan sólo cuando un niño está en riesgo de sufrir complicaciones graves.
