En algunos casos es posible emitir el sonido de una palabra y continuar sin entender qué significa. El próximo paso, entonces, es examinar la estructura de las palabras. ¿Suena o luce familiar el sonido o parte de ella? Quizás puedas conectar una parte de la palabra con otra palabra que ya conozcas.
Por ejemplo, piensa un momento en la palabra misanthropic La pronuncias por sus sílabas—mis-an- THROP-ik—pero continúas sin reconocerla. La miras otra vez. Ves que una parte de la palabra contiene la raíz—anthro. Sabes que la raíz—anthro—aparece en la palabra anthropology—el estudio del ser humano. Es claro que anthro tiene algo que ver con el ser humano. Quizás tambien sepas que el prefijo mis- generalmente significa not o the opposite of, como en misguided. Marca cada palabra que reconozcas o de que puedas imaginarte el significado basado en sus raíces.
