How You Can Help
Although your child can now read and write on their own, reading to them is still a great idea. You can build their vocabulary and understanding of the world by reading aloud from books that are beyond their current reading level. Read from poetry, creative nonfiction, or graphic novels to expand their knowledge of different types of writing.
Read to your child's interests. If your little guy is obsessed with dinosaurs, read to him from science books like A Dinosaur Named Sue, as well as fictional stories about all things prehistoric.
