Payment Options

You may pay using a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or JCB credit card. You can also use a debit card or an authorized voucher. Checks and money orders are also accepted and should be made payable to: ETS—Praxis. Cash is never accepted. Fee waivers are available to applicants with financial need.

How Do I Register?

Usually you will need to register at least four weeks prior to the test date. First-time applicants for the paper-based test must register by mail or online.

To register by mail you must download and complete the Praxis Registration Form. Approximately one week before your test date, you will receive a testing admission ticket, which you will need to bring for entrance into the test.

You can also register online at www.ets.org/praxis/. Online registration is available Monday through Friday, 7 A.M. to 10 P.M. (EST), and Saturday 7 A.M. through Sunday 8 P.M. (EST). To register online, you will need a valid e-mail address, mailing address, and phone number. Order confirmations and test admission tickets will be e-mailed to your e-mail address—you will not be sent a paper admission ticket by postal mail when you register online. Online registration is available only to those not needing special accommodations such as considerations for disabilities or Monday testing.

If you have taken a Praxis Series test previously, you can register by phone with a credit card. There will be a nonrefundable $35 service fee for the transaction, in addition to the standard registration and test fees. To register by phone, call 800-772-9476, 8 A.M. to 7:45 P.M. (EST), Monday through Friday.

Special Arrangements

Special arrangements may be available for individuals with documented disabilities or for test takers whose primary language is not English (PLNE). Monday test dates are available to those who cannot test on a Saturday test date due to religious convictions or military orders. These accommodations may vary from state to state. You should contact the ETS long before the test date to make inquiries.

Emergency Registration

Those trying to register for a desired test date after the regular and late registration deadlines may still be able to take the test on that date by using the emergency registration service for an additional $75 fee. This service guarantees a seat at a test center. Emergency registration is not available for individuals needing special accommodations.

Changing Your Test, Test Center, or Test Date

You may add or change a test or change your test center or test date by submitting a completed Test, Center and Date Change Request form with the $45 fee to the ETS. Please see the website to download the form and to learn more about deadlines and restrictions associated with your specific request.

To change your test and/or test center, the request form must be received by the emergency registration deadline. To change your test date, you need to submit your request form within two weeks of your original test date. Also, you can change your test date only to a future test date in the same testing year.

To Cancel Your Test Date

You may cancel a test date if your written request is received by the ETS by the late registration deadline. To cancel a test date, you must download and complete the Refund Request Form, available online. Then, mail the form to:

      Praxis, Registration Refund
      P.O. Box 6051
      Princeton, NJ 08541-6051

You will receive a refund of your test fees, but not registration or service fees. Refunds will not be given for requests received after the late registration deadline or if you are absent on the test date. Registration deadlines are updated and posted on the website. Refunds are mailed approximately four to six weeks after receipt of your request. If you used a credit card to make a payment, the refund will be credited to your credit card account.

The Computer-Based Test

The Praxis I: Academic Skills Assessments are also available as computer-based tests in over 300 locations throughout the United States. In many ways, the computer-based test is more convenient than the paper-based version. It is given more frequently and provides faster score reporting. You don't have to know much about computers to take the computer-based version—each test begins with a tutorial on the use of the computer. You are encouraged to spend as much time as needed on the tutorial.

About the Computer-Based PPST (CPPST)

With the exception of the essay portion of the writing test, all questions are in multiple-choice format. The questions are presented on the computer screen, and you choose your answers by selecting one choice or highlighting a section. The computer-based tests now have a special "mark" function, which allows you to "mark" a question that you would like to temporarily skip and come back to at a later time during the same section on the test. Test takers will have a review screen to see if a question has been answered, not seen yet, or "marked." The computer-based test is designed to ensure fairness, because each test taker receives:

  • the same distribution of content
  • the same amount of testing time
  • the same test directions
  • the same tutorials on computer use
