Kid-friendly tips from parents

With their families’ help, kids can:

  • use less water when washing their hands, brushing their teeth, or taking a shower
  • set up a box for drawing paper that’s been used on one side or an art project box with interesting items that would otherwise get thrown out
  • remind family members to bring reusable bags to stores, turn out unused lights, and make sure heat and air-conditioning aren’t set too high
  • cut down TV time by only watching certain shows
  • replace incandescent light-bulbs with compact fluorescents
  • be responsible for the recycling area
  • repair broken things when possible rather than replacing them
  • help compost food scraps for the plants or garden
  • have a contest with other kids to see who can pick up the most litter
  • help figure out more ways for the family to save electricity, water, and gas.
