Fourth Grade Math and Reading

A strong understanding of the core subjects is essential in the upper elementary grades, before students begin more complex learning in middle school. This is also a great opportunity for kids to build a lifelong love of learning. Here are the math and reading skills your fourth grader will learn this year:

  • Math: Your fourth grader will become a whiz with fractions and decimals this year. She will also learn about prime numbers. By the end of the year, she will be measuring angles, finding perimeter and area, converting units of measurement, and making her own graphs.
  • Reading: This year is the Golden Age of reading, as your fourth grader consumes more and more books, and is able to gather clues to analyze what she has read. The biggest change this year will most likely be the ability to relate stories to her own life and empathize with characters.
