100th Day of School Craft
Celebrate the 100th day of school by making a unique work of art using 100 colorful pom poms! For kindergarteners who have just started school the 100th day is a particularly important landmark. As she creates her pom pom art, reflect back on the last half year of school with your child and congratulate her on what she's accomplished.
In addition to helping your child reflect on her past experiences, this activity also offers your child good practice in color recognition and counting to 100.
What You Need:
- Construction paper in any color
- 100 mini pom poms in assorted colors
- Glue
What You Do:
- Have your child count out 100 pom poms in various colors.
- Ask your child to choose a favorite part of school or a favorite thing about school such as a sport, subject, or activity.
- Once your child has selected a favorite thing, ask her to think of a simple image that represents it. For example, if your child chose music as her favorite part of school, she might choose a musical note to represent it.
- Have your child arrange the pom poms on the construction paper in the shape of the image she chose.
- Help your child carefully glue the pom poms onto the paper to complete her picture.
- Set aside the pom pom picture to dry completely.
- Once it's dry, have your child recount the pom poms in the picture. Are there 100?
Display your pom pom artwork on the wall or refrigerator to commemorate the 100th day of school!
