Create a Christmas Wreath Salad
The Create a Christmas Wreath Salad activity is a great way to encourage your child to help with dinner preparations this holiday season! You can use this recipe for Christmas dinner or lunch, or for meals leading up to the holiday. This salad recipe is simple enough for preschoolers to fifth graders to create with varying degrees of assistance, and kids will love participating in this fun kitchen activity. While this recipe calls for a specific salad combination, you can choose any veggies your family enjoys. The dressing is optional. A simple olive oil, salt, and pepper mixture would go well with this recipe.

What You Need:
- Large, round platter
- Strainer
- 6-8 cups of romaine lettuce or other salad mixture
- 6-10 baby tomatoes, sliced in half
- ⅛ cup of cheddar cheese, cubed into centimeters
- ½ cup of colored peppers, deseeded and sliced
- 1 tablespoon of sliced almonds
- Any other healthy garnish your learner would like to add to the salad
What You Do:
- Have your child help prepare all the salad ingredients. For younger learners, have them gather the ingredients and tools, and then help you deseed the peppers and wash the veggies in a strainer.
- Have your child place the lettuce around the platter in a circular fashion. Tell them the salad should look like a wreath or a doughnut with a hole in the middle.
- Tell your child to spread out the prepared salad toppings on top of the salad wreath.
Enjoy this Christmas wreath salad soon after making it, or cover it and place it in the refrigerator. Serve it within two days.
