Activity
Find Your Feelings
There are many words to describe how we may be feeling in any given moment. In this social emotional learning activity, you can help your child practice mindfulness of emotions by helping them to welcome their emotions, name and identify them, and recognize that feelings do not last forever. After naming as many feelings as you and your child can think of, help them choose 10 words that describe their feelings. Then, you will guide them to create a word search to understand and explain these words.
What You Need:
- Feelings Word Search worksheet
- Pencils
- Colored pencils or crayons
What You Do:
- Talk to your child about emotions, and ask them to name as many emotions as they can.
- Explain that it can be challenging sometimes to know how to name an emotion. However, when we welcome emotions, give them a name as best we can, and talk about them, there can be greater ease when we experience strong emotions.
- Remind your child that when we notice an emotion in our body, it will not last forever. Emotions are always changing, like passing visitors.
- Explain that they will be writing about emotions and creating a word search to talk about the many different emotions.
- Work with your child to complete the Feelings Word Search worksheet.
