Activity
Living with Integrity
Living with integrity and honesty is critical for healthy relationships and communities! Use this social emotional learning activity to guide your child in a discussion about the meaning and power of integrity. Then, your child will reflect on and write a story about someone who has embodied integrity and honesty in their life, and how their actions impacted those around them. This is a great activity to teach your fourth or fifth grader the importance of responsible decision making, social awareness, and mindfulness of emotions.
What You Need:
- The Power of Living with Integrity worksheet
- Stapler
- Pencils
- Crayons
What You Do:
- Ask your child about a time they were honest with someone. How did it feel? How did it impact others?
- Ask them what they think the word "integrity" means.
- Review the definition of integrity: "Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching and when no one else knows."
- Ask your child to consider a time when someone in their life, in a book, or in a movie embodied trustworthiness, honesty, and integrity. As your child shares their example, ask the following questions: How do you think this person felt when making healthy choices? How did their actions impact others? How does integrity impact communities?
- Use The Power of Living with Integrity worksheet as a guide for your conversation with your child.
- Have your child complete the worksheet, and work with them as they create their book.
- Ask your child to read their story to your family.
