Sorting and Categorizing Cans

What You Need:

• Can cupboard
• Cans

What You Do:

1. Explain that your child will be in charge of the family’s cans.
2. Pull all of the cans out of the cupboard.
3. Explain that your child needs to classify or group the cans that have something in common.
4. Instruct your child to organize the cans on the countertop. Ask questions to help your child explain how the cans are organized and identify what parts are alike.
5. Make necessary adjustments to the categorization.
6. Have your child put the cans back in the cupboard in categories.

Repeat these steps with your child’s sock drawer and toy box, and watch your child become neater!
