Service Ribbons

What You Need:

  • Construction paper
  • Glue stick
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors

What You Do:

  1. Ask your child to look at some images online of service ribbons which have been awarded to various members of the U.S. Armed Services.
  2. Have him write down a list of ideas for creating his own service ribbons. What could they represent?
  3. Encourage him to invent his own service ribbons and assemble them on a sheet of construction paper. Glue them in place.
  4. On a separate sheet of paper, ask him to create a story of a soldier who was awarded all of these service ribbons and what he or she did to earn them. This should be a short story with a beginning, a middle, and an end.
