Activity

Portrait of a Soldier

What You Need:

  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Pencil
  • Glue stick

What You Do:

  1. Ask your child to list out all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard). Make sure he knows what each branch does. Ask him if he was to enlist, which branch he thinks would be the most interesting and why.
  2. Have him create a portrait of a soldier from that branch of the military using construction paper and markers.
  3. On a sheet of light-colored construction paper, ask him to write why he thinks each soldier is important.
  4. Attach what your kid wrote to the portrait and hang it up to celebrate Veterans Day.
