Silly Star Fireworks
In the U.S. there are lots of important days that make for great opportunities to remind your child how lucky she is to live somewhere she can enjoy a great many personal freedoms. Your child can celebrate any one of these days, be it an election day, an important leader's birthday, or any national holiday with this patriotic craft. Using construction paper, your child will practice creating stars that look similar to the ones found on the American flag and then bring them to life by adding firework appendages!
What You Need:
- Construction paper (Red, white, blue)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Glue stick
- Googly eyes
- Marker
- Glitter glue, or sequins (metallic, or patriotic colors)
What You Do:
- Help your child draw a large 5-pointed star on red, white, or blue construction paper and have her cut it out along the lines. Set it aside for now.
- Have her fold paper of a different color in half two times to make a smaller rectangle.
- Ask her to draw a star on the top of the folded paper and cut it out while the paper is still folded. This will reveal four stars.
- Cut four strips of whatever color paper remains and ask her to fold them back and forth so they look like accordions. When they are unfolded, they'll appear springy!
- Glue the folded white strips behind the red star to create arms and legs.
- Have her glue one star at the end of each of the limbs to create a cute firework star.
- Glue two googly eyes in place to give the star a personality.
- Encourage her to draw a smile to complete the face.
- She can now use glitter glue, or sequins to create even more pizzazz for a fireworks show.
