What You Do:
- Ask your child to describe their cultural heritage. Investigate whether they know your family’s history.
- Search for cultural heritage education websites. One reputable website is the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
- On the side of the page, click Online Exhibitions.
- Visit and talk about these curated pages for a rich cultural experience for the whole family.
- Back on the home page, look under “Guides.”
- Download “The Smithsonian Folklife and Oral History Interviewing Guide.”
- Have your child use this guide to conduct interviews with their own family members.
- Encourage your to child compare and contrast their heritage with that of another family or culture.
