  • Facilitate a Think-Pair-Share about the question: "What are the different ways you can move across a room?"
  • Point out instances where students suggest the same mode of moving across a room with different words (e.g., marching, stomping). Engage the class in a discussion about whether they think those words mean the same thing or if there are differences in them.
  • Tell the class that today's lesson will be about synonyms, which are words that mean the same or almost the same thing.
