Learning Objectives

Students will be able to identify the sounds that long vowels make.

The adjustment to the whole group lesson is a modification to differentiate for children who are English learners.
EL adjustments

Introduction

(5 minutes)
  • Call students together.
  • Read I Like Me by Nancy Carlson.
  • While reading, have students point out the words "I" and "A" when they appear in the book. Have students say these letter names out loud. Make sure to congratulate students on either learning or remembering two sight words!

Beginning

  • Preview the read-aloud prior to this lesson to introduce new and/or confusing vocabulary in student home language (L1).

Intermediate

  • Provide students with individual copies of the read-aloud to practice identifying I and A in the story.
