Can you break a ten? An everyday exchange of money can help students think about regrouping to subtract. Students will use bundled popsicle sticks to see how values grouped into tens can be regrouped into ones to allow us to subtract.

Students will use their artistic and directional skills as they practice drawing maps and giving directions. By the time it’s done, everyone will know which way is the right way to go!

In this lesson, students will read the story My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss, and reflect on the many different feelings we may experience. They will use body maps to color in where they may feel different emotions in their body.

What makes a character special? Their traits, of course. With help from The Wretched Stone by Chris Van Allsburg, students will enjoy completing character maps and learning about different character traits.

Once students have selected a topic related to a piece of literature they have read and mapped out their argument, this lesson will help them turn their prewriting into an essay.
