Celebrating the Chinese New Year is fun for family and friends! Use this lesson to teach your students some of the holiday's traditions and events as they practice solving word problems, which involve time and all four math operations.

“Gong Xi Fa Cai, Hong Bao Na Lai!” This means "Happy New Year, Give me my red envelope!" Students will count coins and write the value all while learning about the Chinese New Year tradition of handing out red envelopes filled with money.

This is a great lesson for students to practice identifying the ending sounds in words and connecting those sounds to specific letters in the alphabet! This can be used as a stand alone or support lesson for the Ending Notes lesson plan.
