Introduce place value to your emerging mathematicians while focusing on the numbers 11–20. In this lesson, students will practice separating teen numbers into 10 ones and some additional ones using unifix cubes and ten frames.

Who doesn’t like to spend money and plan parties? Students will subtract two-digit numbers as they calculate the remaining money for their party supplies. They will subtract in multiples of ten and focus on place value.

Do your students ever want to just hurry and finish their homework? Your students can use the number line jumping strategy to quickly add two-digit numbers and show their understanding of place value and expanded form in the process.
