Search Making Predictions in Fiction Educational Resources

They say you can’t predict the future, but with a little help from these activities, you might come pretty close! Making predictions based on reading is a key concept of comprehension, our stash of activities are designed to help your student draw conclusions from all kinds of text -- and to help you teach it more effectively, too.

Making Predictions in Fiction Texts Resources

Making predictions shows the reader is actively involved in the materials and is using their imagination. Students consider context clues, dialogue, character traits, and other elements of the story when imagining a future scenario. The tools in Learning Library teach kids how make predictions thoughtfully based off context clues. The numerous curated lesson plans include step-by-step instructions that are simple to follow. Making Predictions Lesson teaches kids to provide evidence that supports their thoughts on what might happen next. Making Predictions, which can be used as a pre-lesson for English learners, challenges students to anticipate what may happen based off a story that is read to them in class.

There are selected printable worksheets that exercise prediction skills, too. Some worksheets nudge students to imagine a future scenario based off visual cues. Follow the Clues is a popular worksheet that requires some detective work and analytical thinking.
