In a sentence, a preposition introduces a phrase with a location or position in time. The preposition introduces the object, and together they make up a prepositional phrase. For example: in the sentence "The cat is sleeping on the bed", "on" is the preposition, "bed" is the object, and "on the bed" is the prepositional phrase.
