Beginning Sound Match-Up

Find a word with the same beginning sound as ball, bike, and button in this kindergarten and first-grade phonics worksheet! Students will start by cutting out each image at the bottom of the page. They must match each image to the group that shares the same beginning sound.

This hands-on activity will help reinforce students’ understanding of beginning sounds. Isolating and recognizing the phonemes in a word are crucial skills for students to have as they begin to read and spell. Building phonemic awareness will promote early literacy in young learners.
