Worksheet

Check It Off: Living or Nonliving?

What makes a frog living and a robot nonliving? Use observable traits to distinguish between living and nonliving things! In this worksheet, students will look at pictures of six different things. For each thing, they will decide whether it grows, breathes, and needs food or water. Then, they’ll make a final judgement about whether the thing is living or nonliving.

This worksheet was designed for first graders learning about how things are classified into the categories of living and nonliving based on their characteristics. Students can become more familiar with the traits that are essential to living beings, knowledge that will support them as they learn more about environments and ecosystems.
