Worksheet
Crack the Code: Ending Sounds #2
Show off your sound recognition skills and help uncover the mystery sentence! This worksheet helps young readers identify ending sounds to reveal a fun mystery sentence.
Kindergarten and first-grade students will examine each picture, say the word aloud, and write the final sound they hear above the image. Once all the ending sounds are identified, the letters come together to form a secret sentence waiting to be discovered. To wrap up their work, students will draw a picture that shows what the decoded sentence means giving them a chance to demonstrate comprehension in a creative way.
Practicing ending-sound isolation strengthens early phonemic awareness, which is a key skill for decoding a confident speller and reader. Because isolating phonemes is foundational to spelling, this activity gives kindergarten and first-grade students meaningful practice that builds strong literacy habits from the start.
