Desert Plants and Their Parents: Cut and Paste

Study the traits of desert plants with this cut-and-paste worksheet! Learners will cut out each young plant at the bottom of the page and analyze its shape, leaves, and color. Students will use those characteristics to match it with its parent. This activity focuses on desert plants: the prickly pear cactus, the agave plant, the barrel cactus, and the saguaro cactus.

Created for kindergarteners and first graders, this worksheet encourages students to see that plants can also inherit traits from their parents. This understanding will support learners as they begin to learn more about genetics and traits.
