Worksheet
Dot the Syllables #1
How many syllables are in the word duck? What about balloon? In this worksheet, students will look at a picture and count out each syllable in its name. Learners will then fill in the corresponding number of circles with a dot marker or other coloring tool.
This activity will encourage kindergarteners and first graders to break apart unfamiliar words into smaller chunks. Students will build phonological awareness as they say each word aloud and determine the number of syllables. Young readers are encouraged to think about the vowel sounds used in the word as well as its spelling, which can help learners identify syllables.
