Worksheet

Dot the Syllables #2

Find the number of syllables in words like banana and kite in this kindergarten and first-grade worksheet! Young readers are presented with six different images. Students must sound out the name of each item, then count the number of syllables. Learners are then asked to fill in the circles accordingly to show the number of syllables.

As students determine the syllables of each word, they will build vital reading and phonics skills. Learners have to consider vowel sounds to identify the number of syllables, which strengthens phonological awareness. This activity can also help grow confidence in young readers as they learn to break unfamiliar words into smaller, more manageable chunks.

Keep practicing with the other worksheets in this series, Dot the Syllables #1 and Dot the Syllables #3.
