Worksheet
Fall Festival: Dependent and Independent Clauses
Fall into clause practice in this autumnal worksheet! Students will first read an introduction that explains the difference between dependent and independent clauses, and how both types of clauses are used alongside subordinating conjunctions in complex sentences. Then, they’ll read 10 complex sentences and identify the independent clause, dependent clause, and subordinating conjunction in each.
This worksheet was designed for middle school learners working on their understanding of grammar and sentence structure. Knowledge of how clauses function in complex sentences can strengthen students’’ reading comprehension skills and their ability to write clear, varied sentences.
