Worksheet

Find the Greatest Common Factor Using an Area Model

Use the concept of area to help find the greatest common factor in this sixth-grade worksheet! To start, students will write the pair of numbers inside of the area model. Then, they will label each side length with the correct factors, making sure the number on the left side is the largest shared factor, also known as the greatest common factor.

This worksheet helps to build conceptual understanding of both greatest common factor and area. Using a familiar tool, like an area model, can help build confidence in students as they tackle a new concept. Familiarity with finding the greatest common factor can also support students in future math lessons, such as perfect squares and factoring polynomials.
