Fractions With Like Denominators: Color and Compare
Illustrate fractions with like denominators in this fourth-grade worksheet! Students will be presented with six pairs of fractions. For each pair, learners are asked to color in each model to match the fraction, then use a greater than, less than, or equal to compare their values. Then, students will reflect on what they’ve learned by answering a question about the greater fractions in each pair.
This activity will show that when the denominator is the same, the numerator will determine which fraction is greater. These models help to highlight that like denominators mean that the parts of a whole are the same size. These concepts can be confusing, but using models can allow students to more easily understand what fractions represent.
